Chuan Chuen Golf Club has its share of water and mature trees on a woodlands course with tee options to satisfy all skill levels. The fairways yield good lies as a result of the fine care they are given. Lateral water hazards frame 15 fairways and holes and nearly surround a peninsular par three green that feels very much like an island.

You’d better put it in the fairways on this Bangkok golf course and in the right positions because you’ll find varying degrees of doglegs and holes with tight entrances to the greens. When you reach the greens you’ll find them fast and small but the saving grace is that they tend to roll pretty straight with no tricky breaks. A popular hole is the par three 6^th at 173 yards where wind speed and direction can call for two or three clubs difference on any given day. You have to carry the water in front and you’d better stay clear of the deep bunkers on the right and long. Walk away from the 6^th with par and congratulate yourself on a job well done.

Hole 12 is a reachable par five if you have the stuff to cover 512 yards from the back tee in two shots, but be careful. The tee box sets up toward a 475 yard lake down the right side and 260 yards out from the back tee the fairway begins to narrow. The approach is to a green only 17 yards wide with water in front. The clubhouse facilities are adequate with basic locker rooms and a decent Thai restaurant. Chuan Chuen golf course delivers pleasant golf and good value for money.
