Pattaya’s Closest Golf Course with Views Over the Gulf of Thailand

Phoenix Gold Golf & Country Club was originally designed in 1993 by Dennis Griffiths. The course is located approx 15 minutes from central Pattaya and has 27 holes on offer, each of the nines is named the Mountain, Lake and Ocean and best describes the types of landscape that dictates the style and design of the nines.

New owners have spent a considerable amount on up grading all three courses since late 2014 with Thailand’s top designer Pirapon Namatra . The Mountain and Ocean Courses were completed in mid 2015 and have seen work done on the bunkers, tee tops, fairways and drainage which have produced technical improvements, while not significantly changing the look of these courses.

By comparison, the Lakes course has seen an exciting, major re-design, with several holes re-routed and new lakes, tee boxes and greens being introduced. As it is the shortest of the three courses, Namatra’s brief was to make it more interesting, and he feels it may now become the most fun of the three courses to play. Major changes to Hole 5 have seen it turned into a teasing little par four, while Hole 6 has been transformed into a sharp dogleg right par 5 over a couple of lakes.

Being built on a sandy hill this is one of the best courses in the region for drainage and with cool sea breezes offers great all year round golf.

The course is a Parkland style design and is set on wooded, rolling terrain. The fairways are narrow and lined with trees and bunkers to catch the wayward shot. Although fairways are narrow, the greens are relatively easy with few undulations. The lakes nine has plenty of water that comes into play off the tee and around the greens.
