Angkor Golf Resort emphasizes strategy and course management for taming its testy challenges. Six-time major champion, Nick Faldo, carved this Siem Reap course out of his own heady style and proclivity for the mental side of the game. Not wanting to leave everything to the intellectual processes, Faldo secured the blessings of local monks for the project. It is safe to say that all of his efforts paid off because this course solidified Cambodia’s place as an international golf destination.
IMG followed up from Faldo and established the management protocols which is great for golfers because IMG may be the most experienced golf development and management company in SE Asia. Tees, fairways, and greens employ Paspalum turf grasses for excellent playing conditions year round. You have to think your way around this golf course to navigate away from the bunkers and water hazards and to make prudent decisions in approaching the greens because where you are in relation to the hole can be critical to your putting success. At least Faldo lets you see the bunkers and water hazards from the tee boxes.
The last three holes of this Cambodia golf course may tighten your jaw and make your mouth a little dry as you embark upon the fun of putting your self out there on this Angkor Resort golf course. Hole 16 is a par five challenge at 588 yards that most mortal golfers will not reach in two. And if the length were not enough, its angled green with water left presents a risk reward scenario for those inclined to attack the pin. If you lay up away from the water you set up a tough pitch shot over a deep bunker to a shallow green. Hole 17 is the longest par 3 on the course and plays to a green guarded by water on the right side. The back pin locations, in particular, demand a very accurately hit tee shot.
The finishing hole plays 440 yards and it is fertile ground for some dramatic conclusion possibilities. It doglegs left but if you over-cook it you may find the water running down the left side. The best tee shot has to flirt with the water left in order to open up an approach to the green.
The Angkor Resort golf course will please the most demanding golfers and the most fun loving recreational golfers. You demanding types will appreciate Angkor Golf Resort’s 300 meter driving range and excellent practice facility.
