The Nick Faldo designed Summit Windmill Golf Course

which opened in 1993, has become a favorite of locals and tourists playing golf in Thailand and was voted No.1 of the Top 5 Must-Play Golf Courses. The 6964 yard 18 hole course is situated on 160 acres (400 Rai) east of Bangkok, parallel to the runway of the new international airport, Suvarnabhumi International Airport. Sir Nick himself visited the course recently and was impressed with the high quality of the course maintenance.

Summitt Windmill is a pretty course and is easy one the eye with lots of mature trees and grassy mounds and several expanses of water. Faldo has managed to create a hilly feeling in what originally and typical for Bangkok was a fairly flat piece of land, by moving earth to create hilly fairways and elevations.

Their first hole plays is a mammoth 618 yards if you play from the championship blue tees, with water all down the left side to the green.

Faldo has also created a lot of grassy mounds to challenge wayward shots and his 18 holes take on a totally different perspective at night with the floodlights accentuating the shadows created around the many mounds and undulations.

Despite its challenging layout, this Bangkok golf course continues to remain an attraction for all types of players. Although close to the city, it has a country feel with plenty of wildlife with birds and a few reptiles.

The par five 18^th hole is almost a mirror image of the first hole, playing over 500 yards from an island tee over water to a fairway that narrows in the landing area. Then you face a decision whether to go for a green with water in front or take the left side and with bunkers to the right.

Summit Windmill recently completed renovating their large clubhouse which includes two restaurants, large modern locker rooms a spa and a fitness centre. Being close to the Bangna Trad Highway and the outer ring road, it is easy to get to which can make it sometimes very busy, especially on weekends.
