Rajjaprabha Dam Golf Course resides in a spectacular natural setting among limestone monoliths and illustrates the eco-diversity and exhilarating challenges that Thailand golf delivers. This course gets your attention right away and is a joy to play thanks to the superlative layout. You will encounter some very challenging holes that are beautifully landscaped with an abundance of ancient jungle as a backdrop for this very picturesque setting.

Great thought was given to the layout and routing. The pars three holes are quite demanding, given their length. The shortest is the 165-yard 6th , a hilltop tee with views over the entire valley and dam, jungle, with a pond fronting the green and bunkers lurking behind. Then there is the 215-yard 16^th with its dramatic uphill tee shot through an alley of native trees. The extraordinarily steep elevation change requires a demanding shot to reach the green and make par.

The 365-yard 1st hole plays downwind with fantastic views out over the rest of the course. The 377-yard 12^th hole plays from an elevated tee to a green with a hidden bunker. The 441-yard hole number four is the longest par four on the course and requires a precise, well positioned tee shot. The par five holes are all quite long and demanding, especially the 542-yard 7^th, the longest hole on the course, that requires three perfect shots to make par. The tee shot requires a 180-yard carry to clear a river where bunkers wait on the right. The next two shots play long uphill around a dogleg left while avoiding a greenside pond.

Facilities here include a basic clubhouse and restaurant that serves southern Thai dishes at reasonable prices. Golf carts are available for those who prefer to “enjoy the ride” and skip “getting a workout”.

This Thai golf course is probably the best kept secret in the country due to its remote location. However, those on Koh Samui golf holidays can take advantage of this hidden gem and have a memorable experience. The drive to Rajjaprabha Dam is from the Surat Thani ferry terminal through scenic winding roads and is a nice way to lead up to a round of golf.
