Krungthep is in fact a Thai name for Bangkok and Krungthep Kreetha Sports Club is one of the older golf courses in Bangkok. Originally opened back in 1969 and designed by a Thai Rear Admiral this 6,874 yard course was updated in 1995 by American James Vaughn.
Although just twelve miles from Bangkok’s busy centre, players here are able to enjoy a peaceful setting golfing around this mature layout, with its stately trees lining the mainly narrow fairways.
The trees are used effectively to separate the parallel fairways on some of the holes, and the bunkers are well placed although fewer in number than on many other Bangkok courses. However water at Krungthep is part of the challenge , but should not come into play except on any errant shots. The holes where water can come into play are on their par three holes; one of which is 100-160 yards playing onto an island green, and the other two require a carry over water but again don’t worry as there is plenty of room to land on the green.
Being a relatively mature and established golf course, it is wonderful to see and enjoy the large number of colorful shrubs , plants and trees as you play your round. The eighteen hole layout plays at a modest 6,331 yards from the member’s regular white tees, but Krungthep still offers a fun challenge with its tight fairways and a number of interesting doglegs.
