Montgomerie Links Vietnam

18 holes, par 72 (7,090 yards)

Excellent Colin Montgomerie design

Montgomerie Links VietnamMontgomerie Links Vietnam is on the central coast of Vietnam just south of Danang and only minutes from Hoi An, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This links layout is somewhat reminiscent of links golf in Ireland or Scotland with the advantages of a tropical climate and Vietnam cultural touring opportunities. This is the first course to have been built on Vietnam’s central coast and it continues with efforts to preserve the seaside dunes and soil in ecologically aware practices.

The remarkable natural features include the sandy loamy soil, the wind-blown sand dunes, the scraggly beach vegetation, the warm coastal tides, the defiant sea pines, and the majestic Marble Mountains to the west with the South China Sea to the east. Preserving this ecosystem is a high priority at Montgomerie Links as they continually restore the previously disturbed landscape for the good of nature.

A winner of eight Order of Merit awards, Scotsman Colin “Monty” Montgomerie designed huge greens and contoured fairways to blend perfectly into the natural environs to create a memorable golf venue here on the South China Sea coast. Monty has incorporated traditional links design parameters into this Danang golf course by maintaining naturally rolling fairways, absent trees and defined by coarse rough, with expansive greens surrounded by minimal chipping relief. Holes you will surely remember are seven and 13, both par four, with extraordinarily deep bunkers. The non-traditional elements introduced by Monty are the several lakes and streams, necessitated by the coast’s seasonably elevated water table.

Complementing Monty’s championship links track are a modern club house, a full driving range and practice facility, and a residential development called The Estates at Montgomerie Links. Golf management experts, IMG, have the responsibility for managing the property, which is a good thing because they have been instrumental in the development of golf in Vietnam from the beginning.

Hoi An nearby to the south is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, sharing this amazing links land beachscape and offering historical touring opportunities.
