St. Andrews 2000 Golf Club covers undulating natural terrain about 40 minutes southeast of Pattaya off Highway 36 on the way to Rayong. Guests have given these 18 holes high marks as you would expect from a course designed by Desmond Muirhead. If you enjoy a links challenge then this course is a must for your itinerary.
You will find very few and very small water hazards, and the same goes for bunkers as well. Here you have rather wide fairways to rather small greens, some as narrow as 30 feet! While the overall elevation change is about 70’, the landscape is undulating rather than severe. You can get here from Bangkok in about 90 minutes.
The golf course offers an uncompromising challenge targeting players with handicaps of 18 or lower. Playing at over 7,700 yards to par 74, this is a tough layout. St Andrews 2000 features elevated tees and greens, split elevation fairways, both large and small putting surfaces; and while difficult to accept for the traditionalist, two par 6 holes at more than 800 yards each! One is the longest hole in Asia! The back nine in particular has large elevation changes and views of the surrounding hillsides.
While aimed at players with handicaps of 18 or lower, this is not only one of the most challenging courses in Pattaya, it is one of the most challenging in SE Asia. Multiple tee placements ease the experience for the average golfer but regardless of which tees you play from, the 700-yard 4th and 910-yard 13th with tiered greens are daunting encounters. This course is a must when you are in the Pattaya area. It will trump all the difficult course stories from your friends back home.
The course demands a combination of power and accuracy, with the strategic positioning of hazards forcing the player to remain focused on each and every shot. One mental error can be very costly on this track. You will find yourself considering every club in your bag at some point during your round. Bring lots of golf balls, a camera, and expect to be shown a demanding day by this course
The clubhouse and resort which are shared by their other two courses, Rayong Green Valley and Silky Oaks, are run very well. Because of the hilly terrain, golf carts are compulsory However, if just for the bragging rights to be the fist on the block to have played a par 6 (actually 2) it should be worth a visit. Additionally, for those looking for a best golf of Pattaya package, St. Andrews is a must include golf course. Book this course now through Golf Orient or let us include it in a package for you and your group.
