Royal Cambodia Phnom Penh Golf Club is a favorite of current and former Cambodian officials like Hun Sen, who scored a hole-in-one there in 2004. Being so close to the capital allows Phnom Penh residents and expats to get in a round of golf and still have some day left for work or family obligations. Since opening in 1999 Royal Cambodia has seen a steady increase in the number of visiting international guests arriving to play.
This Cambodia golf course prioritizes environmental protection with its land preservation policies that define the propagation of various species of native palms, flowers, and shrubs to beautify the course. Part of the course passes fragile wetlands, that are a natural habitat for wild birds that feed and breed around ponds and streams on the golf course.
The course is rather level but still challenging due to good placement of the numerous sand and water hazards, including one large lake at hole number three. Four tee positions on each hole permit golfers of all skill levels to play distances appropriate to their abilities. You’ll see water come into play on 12 of the 18 holes and strategic greenside bunkering penalizes wayward shots to the greens.
The large Royal Cambodia clubhouse blends traditional Cambodian architecture with modern necessities. Most Cambodia golf visitors find the facilities adequate and the driving range is the largest in Phnom Penh.
