Ron Garl planned Alpine Golf Resort in Chiang Mai to match the standards of his other award-winning achievements; the TPC at Prestansia and Palm Beach Polo Club, both in Florida, as well as the esteemed Alpine sister course in Bangkok. This Chiang Mai golf course plays 7541 yards from the black tees and offers up a challenge the serious player will appreciate. Of course, anyone that enjoys golf in the fresh country air and being at one with nature will find Alpine equally pleasant from the white or blue tees.
The holes you’ll be talking about afterward will surely include the 4th hole, the longest par five on the course and one of the longest in Thailand at 652 yards. Then there’s the 444-yard hole number five, with its well guarded green where par would be a good score. On hole seven, golfers take interest in the Buddhist spirit house near the tee until they notice the stream running alongside and across this hole all the way to the green, making it one of the most challenging holes on the course. Adventuresome golfers that have made merit for the spirits may attempt to carry the whole length of the water and goe for the green in two. However, on this exciting hole anything from an eagle to a dreaded other is possible.
The island fairway on the par four 9th hole is a beautiful sight but demands caution. Playing over water twice and almost directly into the prevailing wind, this hole demands your ‘A’ game to finish the front nine strong. Hole 11 is the hardest hole on the course; a 524-yard par four (yes par 4!) It doglegs left with water down the entire left side and plays more like a par five.
The hole with an island green is number 15, a short 169-yard par three. This is the most intimidating hole on the course. While only a normal iron for most, the sight of the green surrounded by water makes average players tremble. The island looks small, but is actually about 50 yards wide.
Alpine Chiang Mai is a complete resort with a full range of facilities including four-star service, an international restaurant, and a day spa; all this in the spectacular ambience of the hills of Chiang Mai.
