Blue Canyon Golf Club, Canyon Course

18 holes par 72 (7179 yards)

Steeped in History Where Els, Norman and Tiger Played in 1998 in the Johnny Walker Classic

Recognised as a world championship golf course, the Canyon course ranks as one of Thailand’s most in demand 18 holes.

Close to the island’s airport, this course opened back in 1991 and was created out of an old abandoned tin mine. At 7,179 yards, designer Yoshikazu Kato has given us all the challenges to enable you to enjoy a very unique round of golf.

Being sculptured out of a tin mine , at the Canyon you will encounter streams filled with rust coloured water, canyons with sheer cliffs and tailings from the old mining operations, along with towering mature trees, multiple tees, rolling fairways and well guarded slick Bermuda Tiffdwarf greens. It’s all ready for you!!!

The front nine meanders through palm-oil tree lined fairways while the real character of the course takes over on the back nine with canyons and elevations. Holes 13, 14 and 17 are significant as they are built on existing canyon structures plunging into deep waters. Their 13th , christened ‘The Tiger Hole’, after his incredible one shot across 270 yards past the great canyon from the black tee to the green, is a hole of legends.

Having conquered this difficult par 4, the 14th par 3 has a large drop from a elevated tee down to a small island green. A great relief to land and a sense of achievement to land your ball on the green and grab a birdie! Moving forward to one of the longest par 3’s in Thailand, and awarded ‘Top 500 Best Holes in the World’ , the 17th occasionally allows for a memorable hole-in-one.

A very traditional colonial style clubhouse offers three restaurants, a large pro shop, adequate locker rooms plus handy massage and a spa. Now after over 25 years the clubhouse is looking a bit tired and the club’s new owners need to incorporate some renovations her and on the course. That said a round on this famous Canyon course should remain up there on your bucket list! Book this course through Golf Orient, or let us add it to a personalized Bangkok Golf Package for you and your group.

Blue Canyon, Canyon Course

Designer: Yoshikazo Kato.

This Phuket golf course features natural hazards, acres of lakes, towering trees, slick Bermuda TwiffDwarf greens, contoured fairways and skillfully placed bunkers. Designed for golfers at all skill levels: choice of 5 teeing grounds allows the course to be played from varying distances – from a length of 7,119 yards from the back tees to a comfortable 5,974 from the forward tees.

Par 72. Official USGA Ratings: Black 74.8/141; Blue 73.0/137; White 71.5/134; Red 75.2/134.

Phuket’s Blue Canyon Country Club has luxury seeping out of its pores. It’s Canyon Course shot to international acclaim when it hosted the 1994 Johnny Walker Classic with its famed signature hole drawing some real attention as it drew many of the world’s best golfers into the drink. That par 3 14th has a large kidney shaped island green, sitting just 170 yards from the tee box, which narrows down to a slim landing zone on its left. From 40 feet above the hole and the wind creating an annoyance, few greens end up looking, and playing, so much smaller. Just remember, as your ball fails completely to hit any part of the putting surface, that Norman and Faldo went the same way as well.

The 13th hole features a wide, yawning canyon in front of the tee box and extending for a good 200 yards on to the right. A sensational carry is necessary to set up an easy approach. The alternative is to play well left and away from the green to leave yourself not less than 150 yards and a steep uphill climb to the green. This hole is more of a test of character than it is of real ability. The speedy greens add to the difficulty factor. The course features some of the fastest greens in Asia incorporating huge breaks that, for some reason, never seem evident.

We understand that severe restrictions are being placed on the Blue Canyon Course and ad hoc bookings are only allowed through a few very select agents, Golf Orient being one.

Blue Canyon may levy a cancellation charge for bookings cancelled:

  • 1 day before 50%
  • Playing day 100% (no charge if golf course closed due to bad weather)
